A Swiss writing instrument manufacturer, Caran d'Ache is very famous for luxurious fountain pens, ball-pointed pens and mech. pencils in Korea.
But when I heard its company name, I was sure that it must be a Russian pencil maker.
Pencil is 'карандаш' in Russian, and it sounds like 'Caran d'Ache'.
It was so strange to me because it concentrates on luxurious writing instruments like fountain pen.
Well, you may feel something same if you find a pencil maker, 'Phauntine Pen' in somewhere.
However, it is not true that Caran d'Ache doesn't produce pencils. It manufactures several colored pencils and graphite pencils.
Today's review item, Technograph 777 is (or was) the flagship model of Caran d'Ache graphite pencil line-up. (It seems now it's replaced by Grafwood 775, but I'm not completely sure.)
It has yellow barrel with gold print, and black cap.
Barcode-printed vinyl is wrapping the end of pencil, but it doesn't cover entire end, so it doesn't protect the lead. But if you hate barcode printed on barrel, or barcode sticker, you'll love it.
One dozen of Caran d'Ache Technograph 777 comes with a transperent acryl case.
Well, I prefer paper box for a dozen, but this is also acceptable. I think it's much better than too gaudy cases of some Japanese flagship pencils.
Twelve grades including 6B-B, HB, F, H-4H are available.
The lead slips well on the paper. Being compared with STAEDTLER Mars Lumograph, you may feel it slips more than Mars.
The hardness grade of Technograph 777 is a bit different from Mars Lumograph. It's one grade harder than Mars. Here are test writings.

It is never scrachy or crumble. one of the best quality lead. But because it slips more than other quality pencils, choosing this as the best totally depends on your taste.
